It’s Black Friday, so it’s only fitting that today’s drink is brought to you by my consumer-driven love of an eye catching label, a flattering article, and most importantly: an affiliate link.
I came across Escubac while stuck in the San Francisco airport after a grueling 8 day work trip. My colleague and I had arrived at the airport early– desperate to leave the scene of the conference and in preparation of long everyone-is-leaving-town-at-the-same-time TSA lines. Well, as our luck would have it, we got through TSA in a matter of minutes, sit down at our gate– only to find out the plane had been delayed over 2 hours due to an air traffic control tower issue in southern California. After an incredibly mediocre $20 airport salad, I cracked open my laptop, connected to wifi and started scrolling to see what was new.
The Bon Appetit article (linked above) jumped out at me on my Facebook timeline. Partly because the picture was pretty, and as mentioned above– the label is appealing, but also because I am a fan of gin & tonics and so anything that says “forget gin” warranted a click. Why on earth would you FORGET gin? Or want to?? The article was compelling, and at the bottom was a link. I clicked, and after realizing the store would ship to my state, quickly added it to my cart. Every minute that passed during our delay made my clicks more brazen. I added a bottle of wine, then another. Then I was only $15 away from free shipping, so I figured what the hell, I added a fourth.
4 bottles in my cart, and still 45 minutes to go before our flight. I hit checkout, got my free shipping, and decided maybe the rest of my time would be better spent thinking of the cocktail instead of buying MORE drinks.
Last Friday, the doorbell rang and our UPS man was at the door holding a box with a sticker on it claiming: DO NOT DELIVER TO AN INTOXICATED PERSON. I very smoothly and VERY discreetly put my beer down (it was Friday at like 6pm!) and quickly signed.
The bottle IRL didn’t disappoint. It’s modern label and cool shape made for a nice addition to my liquor cabinet– but the inside is really what counts right?
Escubac (you can read more about it here) is floral and citrusy and truly does pair like a dream with tonic and a lemon peel. This summer and fall I have really been into low ABV cocktails so the not-super-high 60 proof is perfect for knocking back more than one when happy hour hits without totally passing out before dinner. I’ll be suggesting it to my gin and tonic loving friends, and I welcome mixing up our cocktail routine for the Holidays.
Escubac & Tonic
2 oz Escubac
2 oz Tonic (don’t skimp here, get a quality tonic like Fever Tree)
In a chilled glass, add clear ice. Add Escubac and tonic, stir gently. Add lemon peel. Enjoy!
