Well friends, the kids are out of school and I’m pouring cocktails faster than ever. You can drink in the driveway any time after noon right??
This week’s cocktail is not an original. You see, the first week of summer is not an easy transition for parents. I primarily work from home, which means I have suddenly gained two slacker coworkers, who require screen time limits, sunscreen applications (and re-applications), bandaids to skinned knees, popsicles doled out any time the temp is above 75, games pulled out of closets, and most annoyingly LUNCH. Made by me. EVERY. DAY. I think I need a summer vacation from my kid’s summer vacation.
This drink came to me as if by fate. Due to the disruption of life that is summer break– I was scrolling through Twitter and saw Saveur magazine had posted an old article highlighting Warm Weather Whiskey Cocktails and right away I knew this was the drink for this week. A week in which I need to clean out my pantry, meal plan for the next nine weeks, organize camp schedules and when to make lunches, use up the rest of the strawberries in the fridge, and the old lemons too. So thank you Saveur, for dragging out this article from 2013. It saved my Friday. Let it save yours too.

Fun Fact! “Bucks” are a family of drinks that consist of ginger beer plus a spirit and citrus—a category that includes this fruity refresher as well as the classic Moscow Mule. Huh!

3/4 oz. lemon juice
1/2 oz. simple syrup
2 oz. bourbon
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 oz. ginger beer
strawberry slice/lemon slice for garnish
